Fish Fry in June

As you know, during Lent we had some bad weather for some of our fish fries.  As a result, we have some fish and fries left over.  The Board decided to offer a fish fry for members only on Friday, June 2, before the regular general meeting.   Dinner will include fish, fries, cole slaw, apple sauce, bread or rolls, and dessert and coffee.  Dinner will start at 5:30 pm followed by the general meeting.  Weather permitting; we will meet in the pavilion for dinner and meeting.  Mark your calendars and come to revisit our Lenten traditions and help us clean out our freezer.

From the President

The good weather has finally arrived and the Tuesday workers are busy with their outdoor activities-cutting grass, landscaping, and assembling new picnic tables.  Our old tables, built by our members, have served us well.  But they now are requiring too much maintenance and are presenting a safety hazard.  The new tables have a design that features walk through seating-no more climbing over the seats.

By the time you read this, we will have initiated several new members to the Society.  Please welcome them and encourage them to get active and involved.

On May 18, the Kolping Society will join the parishioners of Old St. Mary’s at 11:00 am German Mass to celebrate a Communion Sunday.  There will not be a breakfast at the Kolping Center but all members are invited to join in a fellowship gathering, hosted by Old St. Mary’s,  after Mass in the parish meeting space.

And don’t forget our special June general meeting and fish fry described elsewhere in this newsletter.

Schutzenfest is rapidly approaching.  It is our major fund-raiser and will be celebrated July 18, 19, 20.  Our members have always assumed their responsibilities by donating their time to make this festival fun, safe, and successful.  We are still in need of a chairperson for our brat and mett booths and a chairperson for the admission gate on Sunday.  If you are willing to help in any of these or other booths, please call me at 793-1148.

Tom Musbach, President

Kolping Lenten Project 2008

The Kolping Lenten Project in Cincinnati has collected $5,500.00; this includes all donations received up to May 1st.

A special, “Thank You”, to the Kolping Seniors and the Father David Hiller Endowment Fund for their very generous donations.

The donations are lagging behind the donations of previous years.   This can be attributed to the fact that we missed an edition of the monthly newsletter and the cancellation of the March General Meeting because of the blizzard.   I encourage you to read the April Banner for a better idea of the challenges the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes have to deal with now and in the future.

Below you will find a list of donors.   If you would like your name on the Donors List, please mail your checks to:   Kolping Lenten Project, P.O. Box #14, Okeana, Ohio  45053-0014.

The goal is $6,500.00 and the Lenten Project continues until May 31st.  Make checks payable to:  Catholic Kolping Society of America.

To the Kolping Society family

We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation for all your prayers and cards during Jim’s surgery and illness, and we also would like to say thank you for your condolences and many offerings you have made in memory of Jim.  We hope that through his loss, others may be helped. Seeing so many Kolping members at the visitation, prayer service, and funeral Mass served as a testament to his gift of friendship and faith life.  We also appreciate the outpouring of sympathy and support offered to our family at the celebration of his life.  It is comforting to know that we share his loss with so many wonderful and caring people.  Please continue to keep Jim and our family in your prayers.

God Bless

Bernie Brunsman and family
